Yep, it’s that time again.
I was a bad week for me on pretty much all fronts.
On the dieting front I think I only cooked at the house four or five meals all week. We had a series of cookouts, dinner engagements, and random calls out of the blue announcing that we were going out to lunch. While I tried to make the healthiest choices from what was available I gave up trying to count points halfway through the week, it was simply making me depressed.
Moving forward, I am going to have a difficult week coming up again. I am heading off to Virginia to attend my sisters wedding. While that should be a blast I am going to spend five days out east out of my normal environment. It remains to be seen how I handle it. I am hoping it goes well.
On the exercise front I managed a total of two of my three workouts for the week. I honestly wanted to do more, and I think that was my downfall. On my second trip to the gym on Tuesday of last week I pushed a bit harder than usual. I decided to add a third mile to my run/walk as two miles was getting more manageable. On the last lap I slipped ever so slightly and my next step landed with my left knee locked. It protested.
Most particularly it said “Crunch”. This is knee language for “Dumbass, you have not run this much since boot camp and that was over 20 years ago.”
It actually said it loud enough that the person jogging next to me looked over and asked if I was ok. I foolishly answered yes.
I was wrong.
By the time I had cooled down and gotten a shower after my workout it felt like a small person with a very sharp knife was trapped behind my kneecap trying desperately to get out.
I have spent the better part of the last week hobbling around on that leg. For days I could only walk on it in bite sized chunks, five minutes or so. By the weekend I was able to get around ok with the use of plenty of Motrin. I can say that now, almost a full week later, it is working pretty well. It only bothers me when doing stairs.
This week I do plan on getting back into the gym. I can do workouts involving weights and low impact cardio on the machines. I am thinking the Nautalis equiptment and the exercise bike. Either way I need to get back and do something, I feel so much better when I am keeping with it. Just no more running for me for a while.
Then again, I don’t want to be hobbling around at the wedding, particularly since I am in the wedding party. Keeping that in mind, I will likely try to baby that leg just a bit this week. At least till next Tuesday when I get back into town.
After all the other challenges that I had faced this week, not all having to do with the diet and exercise plan, I decided to take a pass on weighing in. The clothes that I was able to get into last week still fit. I will just call that good enough for this week. Next time when I can keep my balance on the Wii fit well enough to weigh in I will post it. The best thing about weeks like this is the next one always looks better by comparison.
Overall, this week seemed to be all about life throwing lemons at me. I got hit by a few, caught my fair share, and dodged as much as I could. The saying goes that if life throws you lemons you should make lemonade. I don’t think whoever said that realized how hard that lemonade can sometimes be.
Whatever, I guess I’ll just drink my hard lemonade and keep plowing on.
